Hazmat Endorsement Training in Louisiana and Arkansas

ELDT Compliant Hazmat Training for Truck Drivers

Diesel Driving Academy offers a Hazardous Material (Hazmat) Endorsement Training Program for experienced drivers or can tailor our Hazmat program for fleet training. Our Hazmat training is available for students who have previously completed their ELDT-compliant training requirements, such as ours, or drivers who currently hold a valid Class A CDL. DDA’s training is affordable and easily attainable with our flexible scheduling options, and is available to be completed either online or in-person.

What is the Hazmat Endorsement?

A Hazmat endorsement allows truck drivers to transport any materials categorized as hazardous materials by the Federal Motors Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), such as:

  • Explosives
  • Corrosive materials
  • Gases
  • Flammable or combustible liquids and solids
  • Radioactive materials
  • Poisons or oxidizing substances

The Secretary of the Department of Transportation has determined that hazardous materials are substances that pose an “unreasonable risk to health, safety, and property when transported in commerce.” Professional drivers with proper Hazmat training understand the safety protocols and processes for handling the materials they are transporting.

Why Should I Get the Hazmat Endorsement?

There are many advantages for truck drivers to get the Hazmat endorsement.

First and foremost, truck drivers who can transport hazardous materials will ultimately have more job opportunities available. Many industries rely on the transport of hazardous materials. As a result, there is a constant demand for properly trained truck drivers with a hazmat endorsement. Additionally, some carriers specialize in hazardous materials, so only drivers with the necessary endorsements can apply for these positions.

Next is the opportunity to earn a higher salary. Hazmat drivers are one of the highest-paying job opportunities in the trucking industry. Trucking carriers understand the additional safety considerations and knowledge needed to transport hazmat materials. Because of this, most employers will compensate drivers at a higher rate than those without the hazmat endorsement.

Lastly, receiving proper hazmat endorsement training will enhance your knowledge of safety procedures and compliance with federal and state regulations. These skills and experiences can help boost your professional reputation, which may lead to more advanced positions early in your career.
