Truck Driving School Benefits for Veterans

Transition into a Civilian Truck Driving Career with DDA

Diesel Driving Academy is honored to offer Class A CDL training to active-duty military members, veterans, reservists, and immediate family members. As a VA-approved truck driving school, students are eligible to use their military benefits at our Shreveport, Baton Rouge, and Little Rock campuses.

At Diesel Driving Academy, we proudly support and assist thousands of military veterans each year in starting successful civilian careers as professional truck drivers. Countless active-duty service members and veterans utilize their VA Educational Benefits to enroll in our CDL training programs throughout all points of their service. Many of our students have joined us from surrounding military bases, including Barksdale Air Force Base, Fort Johnson, Camp Beauregard, Arkansas National Guard, and Little Rock Air Force Base.

Our dedicated and knowledgeable staff is here to help veterans and their families maximize their benefits, including assistance with applying for programs like the Post-9/11 GI Bill®. With our experience in navigating the process, we understand the unique challenges veterans face when transitioning to civilian life. We’re here to provide the guidance and support needed to help them succeed in their new trucking careers.

Veterans Benefits for CDL Training

In addition to the opportunities in the high demand, good paying truck driving industry you’ll have as a former service member with professional truck driver training, there are also a number of tuition assistance programs available to help cover the cost of CDL training. Some of the active duty and veterans programs that Diesel Driving Academy participates in are:

Chapter 30 – Montgomery GI Bill® (MGIB)

The Montgomery GI Bill® (Chapter 30) provides educational assistance to veterans and active-duty service members. Eligible individuals can receive monthly payments to help offset tuition and other training expenses while earning their CDL.

Chapter 31 – Veterans Readiness and Employment (VR&E)

Chapter 31, also known as Veterans Readiness and Employment (VR&E), offers vocational rehabilitation to veterans with service-connected disabilities. This benefit provides funding for CDL training, covering tuition, books, and supplies to help veterans gain new skills and transition into truck driving careers.

Chapter 33 – Post 9/11 GI Bill®

The Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) is a popular benefit for veterans who served after September 11, 2001. Veterans can use this comprehensive benefit to pursue a career in the high-demand trucking industry, ensuring financial support throughout their training.

Chapter 35 – Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance Program (DEA)

Chapter 35, the Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance Program (DEA), provides educational benefits to dependents of veterans who have died or are permanently disabled due to service-related conditions. This benefit can be used for CDL training, giving survivors and dependents the financial assistance they need to enter the truck driving industry and build a secure future.

Chapter 1606 – Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)

The Montgomery GI Bill® – Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606) is designed for members of the Reserve or National Guard. It offers monthly education payments that can be applied toward the cost of CDL training. With this benefit, reservists can start a trucking career while continuing to serve their country, giving them flexibility and financial support for their education.

DoD Tuition Assistance (TA) Program

The Department of Defense Tuition Assistance (TA) Program helps active-duty service members pursue their educational goals. TA can be used to pay for truck driver training, covering a significant portion of tuition costs.

Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA)

The MyCAA program provides financial assistance to military spouses pursuing education or certification in high-demand fields, including truck driving. This benefit covers the cost of CDL training, helping military spouses build rewarding careers in trucking while their partners are on active duty or transitioning out of the military.
