More trucks are hitting the road each year and commercial truck carriers need thousands of professionally trained drivers to get behind the wheel of those trucks.
Used commercial truck sales are up as the demand for trucking services continue to grow all over the nation. All the month-over-month comparisons – volume, price, miles, and age – for all weight groups of used commercial trucks grew in July. According to a report by ACT Research, more trucks are being sold as truck carriers look to keep up with demand.
“Up until a few months ago, most dealers cited a lack of inventory as the primary factor holding them back from selling more units,” reported Steve Tam, vice president-commercial vehicle sector with ACT. “As if on cue, meaningful amounts of inventory started showing up in some markets.”
Trucking routes, both long- and short-haul, are increasing across the country and international routes – those between the United States, Mexico and Canada – are also growing as the demand for commercial trucking services continues to grow. This growth makes now the perfect time to start a career as a commercial truck driver.
The report from ACT provides data on the average used price for the top-selling Class 8 model for each of the major truck OEMs – Freightliner (Daimler); Kenworth and Peterbilt (Paccar); International (Navistar); and Volvo and Mack (Volvo).
Carriers are purchasing more trucks in an attempt to keep up demand but, in addition to more trucks, carriers need more drivers for those trucks, especially professionally trained drivers, like those students from the Diesel Driving Academy’s CDL training program.
