May truck data showed again that the commercial truck industry is growing.

Growth in the trucking industry has been taking place for the past few year and even as the nation struggles to recover from the 2008 recession, the commercial truck industry has been “trucking” along and offering thousands of jobs to those looking for a new career.

When compared to the year before, the American Trucking Associations’ advanced seasonally adjusted (SA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index in May was 4.1 percent higher, making it the largest year-over-year increase since February 2012. Year-to-date, compared with the same period last year, tonnage was also up 3.8 percent.

While trucking growth has slowed a bit in the previous two months, ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello said the year-to-date growth was good news and other factors should help the commercial trucking industry continue to be one of the nation’s fastest growing job sectors.

“The good news is that the decrease in fuel prices will help support retail sales going forward, which is a big part of truck tonnage,” Costello said in a press release. The trucking industry had already been growing even as diesel prices rose, but with fuel prices beginning to drop it will only bring more growth to the trucking industry, which has been growing rapidly for the past few years.

As the commercial trucking industry continues to show signs of growth, now is the perfect time to join this industry by becoming a professionally trained CDL truck driver. Diesel Driving Academy offers some of the best CDL training in the nation. The program is designed to introduce students to the procedures and skills found in the commercial truck driving industry while preparing each individual to obtain a commercial driver’s license.

If you are looking for a new career field then the commercial truck industry should be considered. Often called the nation’s most recession-proof industry, trucking is booming and thousands of drivers are needed in the coming months and years.

While carriers are desperate to hire more drivers, they are also looking for those that have received professional training. In a matter of months, you could be working for one of the nation’s best commercial truck carriers and be well on your way to a long-term and fulfilling career in one of the country’s fastest growing job fields.
